Mercedes-Benz’s parent company recently announced that they will stop the manufacturing of sedans in North America. Loss of sales for the sedan variant to SUVs remains the main reason for the decision.
The company currently builds C-Class sedans in various different locations in North America. The Tuscaloosa plant will continue manufacturing the GLE, GLE Coupe, and GLS SUV variants, however the plant in Mexico will solely focus on the GLB SUVs.
No official dates as when the manufacturing will come to a halt have been mentioned, but it is likely that the manufacturing will phase out prior to the launch of the redesigned C-Class which arrives in 2021. The gap in production is likely to be filled by electric SUVs.
Future sales for the sedan variants in North America will likely be in import form from the company’s plant in Bremen, Germany.
