Recent reports have suggested that Mercedes Benz is all set to test out a new member of its EQ line-up of battery electric vehicles.
The new variant is a crossover SUV will be known as the EQS SUV and is due for sale in late 2022 and will likely be introduced as a 2023 model. It’s expected to be a high-riding counterpart of the EQS sedan that’s due in 2021. Both the EQS models will form part of an expanded S-Class family. Smaller variants of the EQE and EQE SUV models are also expected and are being tested as well.
It’s without a doubt that the future EVs will be based on Mercedes’ first dedicated EV platform, known as the Electric Vehicle Architecture (EVA). Some of the variants are expected to give a stunning range of 400 miles or more.
As far as the design is concerned, the EQS SUV appears to be closer in style and size to the minivan than a SUV. Other potential rivals include the Tesla Model X, BMW iNext, and the Cadillac Lyriq.
Mercedes-Benz recently confirmed that the EQS will be used to spearhead the EV plans the company has and is part of a top-down approach that was announced by the CEO of the Daimler in October.
