The Mercedes C-Class that we all know did go through its mid-cycle updates for 2019, but the prototypes for a next-generation model have been in testing for a while now.
Based on recent reports and spy shots it’s safe to assume that the new C-Class is expected to go on sale in 2021 as a 2022 model. As for overseas markets, prototypes for a C-Class wagon are in testing as well.
Based on the recent tests, we can see that the testers have lost a lot of the camouflage that was previously present, and it has revealed a vehicle with a similar size and proportions to the current C-Class. The interior of the car is expected to be a lot more radical and will feature a large infotainment screen that’s similar to the S-Class. The infotainment system can be operated through your smartphone and also uses natural speech to control a lot of the functions of the vehicle.
Under the hood, the next-generation C-Class is packed with a 2.0-Liter turbocharged inline-4, and this time it’s augmented with a mild hybrid system. Above all, this is expected to be a plug-in hybrid system. Standing at the top of the range will be AMG’s C63 that comes packed with a 4-cylinder engine instead of the current C63’s V-8.
One of the major changes on the next generation C-Class that’s worth mentioning is the production. Mercedes usually builds the C-Class for North America in their Tuscaloosa, Alabama plant.
However, that won’t be the home of the new C-Class and as of now it’s new home has been kept under the covers for now.
