It’s without a doubt that the Mercedes G-Class is one of the biggest and baddest SUVs that we have since, but that’s not all. It’s about to get a whole lot better with the arrival of the new 4×4 squared variant.
The current G-Class in G-550 guise offered the iconic SUV fitted with off-road gear that includes the portal axles that are known from given the car’s stance.
The setup was taken from the 6×6 variant of the G-Class that was originally developed for military use and was offered in civilian guise for a limited time. Recent spy shots show that the current generation G-550’s look is here to stay, and has been fitted with a custom roof rack. The ride height of the variant is expected to be 17 inches.
Mercedes has not made any official statements with regards to the work on the new G-550 4×4 squared, however based on the production ready look of the prototype it is safe to assume that the variant is set for launch and will hit the market in late 2021 as a 2022 model.
Regardless of what’s packed under the hood, a 9-speed automatic transmission is expected. If you’re looking to buy one, then it’s best to start saving. Remember the last one comes with a hefty price tag of over $225,000 and is safe because the price tag on this variant is likely to go up.
