The Mercedes-Benz AMG GT lineup has seen the addition of the new GT Black Series range-topper for 2021, but that has come at a cost being the more tamper variants of the GT-R, at least in the United States.
The variant was first launched in 2018, and the GT-R was the original track focused option in the GT lineup. The variant came with a total of 577 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque from the familiar 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V-8, along with a track focused suspension, new aerodynamic elements, and a wider track to top it all off. One of the major key features that was introduced in the all-new GT-R was a four-wheel-steering-system.
There have been a number of changes that have been made to the GT lineup for 2021. Some of the many changes include a boost in the output base of the GT model. This allows the variant to give a total of 523 horsepower and 494 pound-feet of torque. It’s worth mentioning here that both these numbers are slightly higher than what was previously being offered.
Along with that, performance boosts for the GT-C have been noticed as well as the variant will now offer a total of 550 horsepower, and 502 pound-feet of torque.
Keeping all that in mind, it’s a disappointment that fans will miss out on the GT-R which could have been bought for a price slightly higher than $150,000. Those who are now looking to buy a 720-hp GT Black Series will now need to spend nearly double that amount, that’s with assumption that the variants aren’t sold out already.
