Mercedes-Benz has been seen testing a prototype for an updated CLS-Class.
Although the prototype was mainly seen in camouflaged gear, some mild updates are visible. Based on what we know so far, the front fascia has suggested some tweaks here and there, and the internals of the headlights are also in for a new design.
It’s likely that the company will be making some tweaks to the interior as well in the near future, and the rumors of the CLS receiving the latest version of the Mercedes Infotainment system for 2021 have been confirmed as well.
In the United States, the CLS-Class is currently being offered as the only CLS-450 and CLS-53 grades. Both of the variants feature a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 and mild-hybrid tech, and delivers 362 and 429 horsepower each. Outside of the U.S., the E-Class variant for the CLS has received a plug-in hybrid option that utilizes a 2.0-liter inline-4.
Reports in February did claim that Mercedes could ultimately drop the CLS-Class with the AMG-GT 4-Door Coupe to fill in as a replacement. Along with that, the CLS-Class, GT 4-Door Coupe, and the EQS do make things a bit crowded for one segment.
Given what we know so far about the CLS-Class arriving for the 2019 models year, we believe that it’s safe to say that the updated variant will be introduced in 2021 as a 2022 model.
