It’s without a doubt that the next generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class has made its debut, and it definitely comes with quite a lot of technological updates and tons of innovations.
One of the most amazing features of the new variant is it’s incredible self-driving mode.
According to Mercedes-Benz, the 2021 S-Class comes equipped with Level 3 and Level 4 self-driving capabilities. A recent clip that surfaced on the web shows a driver going hands-off while operating the car. This definitely leads to the conclusion that some of the vehicle’s Level r features are being tested on public roads.
From what we know so far, the autonomous driving program of the new S-Class lets it steer, brake, and accelerate automatically. However the auto-parking of the vehicle is on Level 4. This feature goes beyond what you’d normally expect as the car not only finds it’s own parking spot, but returns back to the driver when required as well!
Given what we have, it’s safe to say the car is truly a self-driving vehicle. However, human intervention is required in some cases. Especially when the car is going at more than 60 km/h or during critical moments.
Despite its driving capabilities, the complete benefit of the autonomous driving tech is currently being held back by legal restrictions and lack of infrastructure to support it.
