Based on recent news, prototypes for the next-generation SL-Class have already started testing on public roads.
Remember the classic 300SL from the 1950s, well the design of their next-generation roadster has taken a ton of inspiration from it. As of now the development is being handled by Mercedes-AMG and is already at a late stage. It’s possible the very first prototypes made their way to the roads back in 2016.
Rumor has it that the brand new SL roadster will go on sale in 2021 as a 2022 model, and will likely be called the Mercedes-AMG SL Roadster.
The SL53 is expected to come equipped with a 3.0 liter turbocharged inline-6 and will also feature a mild-hybrid system that can generate an output of 430 horsepower, and the its twin the SL63 will feature a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8, and with the combination of a mild-hybrid system it can generate a horsepower over 600.
Based on the recent actions the company has taken it can be concluded that that the new SL will fill in the shoes of the S-Class Coupe and S-Class Convertible that were recently phased out.
