Although carbon-neutral synthetic fuels have the potential to the engine running for decade to come, the German automaker Mercedes-Bens believes it will never actually happen.
“If you have an abundance of energy, the best use is to put it directly into a battery, to transform green energy into an e-fuel is a process where you lose a lot of efficiency.” – Markus Schaefer, Head of Research and Development, Mercedes-Benz.
In a recent interview with Autocar, the head of research and development at Mercedes stated that synthetic fuels aren’t suitable for care even the mid-term, and that focusing towards electricity is a much better solution.
Mercedes currently considering electric cars first, however the company is ready to move with other solutions for alternative regulations and consumer needs.
