In terms of looks and appeal, the new S-Class portrays a more subtle strakes and lines all around its body. The grille of the newer variants flows into the hood, but more gradually and has slimmer headlights. A strikingly similar roofline is seen as well.
Under the hood, the S500 4Matic comes equipped with a 3.0 liter turbo-6, and an inline engine with mild-hybrid 21-hp and 184 lb.ft. of boost applied to the gas engine’s 429 hp and 384 lb.ft. of torque. The power is generate from a 9 speed automatic, however no 0 to 60 mph acceleration times have been mentioned so far but the all new S500 is set to have a top speed of 130 mph.
The S580 variant adopts a 96-hp twin-turbo V-8 with 516 ln-ft of torque, and the same boost of mild-hybrid power. And like the S500 4Matic, no acceleration times have been made public and the car’s top speed is expected at 130 mph as well.
Mercedes Benz has mentioned that they are beginning to implement Level 3 autonomous driving in Germany soon, and that the new S-Class comes equipped with hardware to make use of Level 3 autonomous driving feature along with the ability to enable Level 4 features. However, all these implementations as subject to law.
